If you prefer to listen to the audio-only dictation, you can find it here on Soundcloud.

The syllabic count of this one is 1.3, but one half is higher than the other. Take it down in Teeline before you look more closely at it, and see if it is obvious which half is which.

This passage provides excellent opportunities to learn about vocabulary, word groupings, and even overall language use.

Here are some key points:

Groupings and Idioms - you will encounter these again (and again). Learn them properly and use them forever.

  1. "in this day and age"
  2. "I am sure you will":
  3. "for some time":
"in this day and age"
"I am sure you will"
"for some time"

Time Expressions: Notice the variety of ways to express future time:

  1. "before the end of next month"
  2. "at the beginning of next year"

Are both of these groupings not beautiful?

"before the end of next month"
"at the beginning of next year"

Vocabulary Enhancement: Some words worth studying:

  1. Revitalise: To give new life or vigour to something
  2. Refurbishment: The process of renovating or redecorating
  3. Minimise: To reduce to the smallest possible amount
  4. Disruption: Disturbance or problems which interrupt an event or activity

Repetition for Emphasis: Note the repeated use of "town centre".

"town centre"

A reminder to include some theory in your Teeline routine that extends beyond taking dictation. For example, when was the last time you revised on Months of the Year in Teeline?
