If you prefer to listen to the audio-only dictation, you can find it here on Soundcloud.

A few important notes:

The title contains the words “cargo bikes”. It is highly likely that a word or words in the title of an examination will be repeated in the passage. In this passage the term occurs no less than 11 times. Of course, you normally would have no way of knowing this as there is no guaranty. However, it’s usually prudent to think about the words in the title (and to establish your own special outline(s) and drill them before dictation starts). In this passage, 22 words (cargo bike x 11) might have been written in a quicker way. That is a fair advantage!!!!

Additionally, there are no less than five occurrences of hyphenated words in this passage:

eight-week

user-friendly

heavily-congested

eco-friendly

low-emission

When counting words in this mock, treat hyphenated words in one of two ways:

Both versions are acceptable for this mock since grammar is not being evaluated.

Important Note: If you count a hyphenated word as one word instead of two, your total word count will be lower than intended. The writer composed the text counting these as two separate words, so counting them as single words will make your total word count incorrect. For example, in a 120-word passage, counting all five hyphenated terms as single words would give you only 115 words instead of the correct 120. In any case, you would not be penalised in an exam situation.
